Andrew Negus will be back with us to deliver Part 3 of his series of talks about the history of Portsmouth. Many members will remember Parts 1 and 2 but you don't need to have heard them to appreciate Part 3.

We shall see why the Dockyard triples in size, why the dung disappears, and how corsets cut down on prostitution! Mudlarks will entertain us, as will Sherlock Holmes with his football. Three women super heroes will feature and inspire us. New hospitals, hotels and theatres will appear and bring baby Peter Sellers along too.

The First World War will bring glory and death to the town, which is then honoured as a City with a Bishop. Sadly, there will still be slums and an awful murder.

Andrew Negus is a very entertaining speaker and his last two Talks in 2021 and 2022 were very well received. He is a retired history teacher, an around the world backpacker (twice), a Blue Badge guide for central southern England, and he aspires to be a local historian.

Followed by supper of; Chicken fricassee with seasonal vegetables and apple pie with ice cream.

Talk and supper - £18.95pp

Talk only - £4.00pp

Bookings open on 22 March here
