Talk & Lunch

12th December 2019, 12:00 - 14:00

To shake off those Election Blue's we have a very special talk about the making of the recently released film "Downton Abbey".

We have secured the services of "Diana Mitchell "to give us a unique insight into life at Highclere Castle and whilst making the film, the challenges encountered by the artists, film crew, writers and the family in making this special film.Diana Mitchell is Head Guide at Highclere Castle, seat of the 8th Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, one of the finest stately homes in England, and now famous world-wide as "the real Downton Abbey". (Its origins go back to the 14th century as a palace of the Lord Chancellor of England and is less known for as the home of the 5th Earl and his discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Diana's presentation describes her day to day experience working with the stars and the film crew in the famous series, and more recently, the new filming of the movie released this year, including behind the scene shots and the impact on Highclere, now 9 years on from the first showing, and bringing back Downton to the big screen.

Diana works closely with the present Earl & Countess and is delighted to answer questions and discuss any aspect of the Castle, the Park and Estate, and the filming of Downton Abbey. The actual film "Downton Abbey" will be shown in DVD format at the Club on "Film Night" in January 2020.
