Junior Race Weekend

8th August 2020

ESC Junior Race Weekend with a twist!

What we know so far for Emsworth "sailing with a twist" Weekend: It is important that you read this in order for you to make an informed decision about registering for the weekend:

Double handed boats must be from the same household.

Safety boats must be manned by 2 persons from the same household. If we do not have enough safety boats, the event will be limited or even cancelled.

There will be no socials. The event will be all about sailing/racing only.

The format of the racing is yet to be finalised. It will depend on the number of entries and how many safety boats we are able to crew, given the safety boat household restrictions.

Racing start times may be staggered and could change daily and each fleet may have different instructions.
We aim to have 3 fleets:

  • Optimist (those who can confidently and independently sail a triangle and right their own boat in case of capsize);
  • Tera Sport (those who can confidently and independently sail a triangle and right their own boat in case of capsize);
  • Handicap Fleet (Fevas, Tera Pro, Lasers, 2000s, RS200s, Aeros etc).

The event is open to all U18 members of ESC.

No changing facilities will be available. All members racing will be expected to arrive changed and depart in their sailing clothing.

By law the maximum gathering size is 30 people at any time on land. Therefore, no lingering will be allowed before and after the racing and the format of the week will need to adhere to this 30 person gathering rule at all times. If we are unable to achieve this, the event will significantly change or may need to be cancelled.

By law a maximum of 6 persons can form a bubble from a mixed household. At all times this needs to be adhered to eg during launching, recovering, rigging in the dinghy park etc.

There will be a heavy demand on parent power to make the event happen, much more so than in previous years. Therefore, parents may be expected to do a duty for all 2 days and their duty may not always be where their child(ren) are sailing. It certainly isn't a week of childcare!

Fleet sizes will be capped (minimum numbers needed). Only ESC members will be permitted to enter.

The upper wind limit for sailing has been reduced. Therefore, there is a high chance of cancelled race days or race schedules may be changed at the last minute.

Racing would be from 8th to 9th August.

Everyone should be prepared to be flexible at all times to adapt to the 'new normal'.

Parents will be expected to stay on site or close by but in communication

Parents are expected to use Whatsapp for all Race Week information to reduce the need for face to face meetings.It is therefore important the contact details entered for registration are correct for the parent who will be present for Race Week.
