COVID 19 ANNOUNCEMENT 28 MARCH 2020

Published 16:22 on 10 Apr 2020

Following the announcement last week of the closure of the clubhouse, this is to tell you about the closure of the ESC terrace, Mountbatten dinghy park and car park.

In light of the most recent Government advice, RYA guidance and in line with the actions taken by many local sailing clubs, the decision has been made to close the sailing club terrace, car park and Mountbatten dinghy park until further notice.

Details are as follows:

  • Members' cards will no longer allow access to the clubhouse or terrace
  • The Sail Store, Outboard Store, workshop and both gates will be locked
  • If access to the terrace is required, please email me on commodore@emsworthsc.org.uk - I check my email regularly!
  • The Flag Officers will then authorise access if appropriate
  • We cannot physically close the dinghy or car parks, but we would ask you to abide by this decision in order to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.

Please be assured that this decision has not been taken lightly - it has been discussed at length and all week (remotely of course) by the General Committee and was then voted on.

The following is the latest advice from the Chichester Harbour Conservancy:

Recreational Boating

Harbour users are directed to the current Government advice relating to the Coronavirus pandemic, restricting travel to:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling to and from work, but only where you cannot work from home.

Recreational boating is contrary to this advice and has the potential to place extra strain on emergency services.

We are monitoring the situation daily of course, and will lift these and all other restrictions as soon as we are able. The more closely we follow the advice, the sooner the pandemic will be over and we can return to whatever the new normal will be.

Thank you for your understanding and stay safe everyone.
